Tips For Traveling With Your Pet

Pets can be the greatest things ever, and it’s natural to want them to enjoy the summer with you! If you’re bringing your favorite animal(s) with you on a roadtrip, Price LeBlanc has a few tips for you!

1. Get your pet used to car rides. If you can start when they’re just babies, even better! Hold them in your arms and have someone drive you around the block a few times and eventually move up to letting them ride by themselves.
2. Give your pet their own spot. Whether it’s a small kennel, bed, or nest made of blankets, give your pet a place where they know they should be, or can retreat to if they get frightened.
3. Make sure you have plenty of food, water, and bowls. Animals’ stomachs do best when you stick to routine, so if you can keep mealtimes at the same time, you can avoid tummy trouble at your destination.
4. Time bathroom breaks. A small puppy might need frequent bathroom breaks, but a large adult dog might be able to go for 4 hours without a stop. You know how long they can usually last, so make sure you’re not waiting until the last minute. Be on the lookout for whining, pacing, or excessive panting as these might be signs to pull over now!
5. Avoid danger. This might seem obvious, but humans don’t have to worry about their children licking the pavement of a gas station! Gas stations have lots of chemicals that are poisonous for animals, and are best avoided for walks. Similarly, keep an eye on grassy areas in case of ticks or other nasties that might attack.
