How do I know my oil needs to be changed?

• After an oil change, most service centers will leave a small sticker in the upper left of the windshield telling you when to return. Check their recommendation against how often your Owner’s Manual suggests having your oil changed. If your manual says it can wait a few more thousand miles than the sticker and your car is newer, go with the Owner’s Manual’s advice. If your car is a little on the older side, you’ll want to err on the side of having your oil changed too soon (though it’s never too soon!)
• Even if you don’t put a ton of miles on your vehicle, you should have your oil changed twice a year after the weather has changed. Our suggestion is to get in a habit of changing before traveling for Christmas, and then again at the beginning of summer before any roadtrips.
• If you’ve been driving in dusty or dirty roads, it’s possible that your oil may have gotten some grit in it. The oil itself might be in great condition, but those contaminants are a serious issue.
